Warmly Praised YA Novelist Leila Howland Launches Hello Sunshine

Thursday, July 13th at 7:00 p.m.

Middle Reader and YA novelist Leila Howland returns to Chevalier’s to launch her picaresque new YA novel Hello Sunshine, about a prep school girl from the East Coast who tries her luck in the land of sunshine, landing in L.A. with only a few suitcases and a Hollywood dream. A contemporary riff on a classic tale,  this is a perfect summer read for tweens and teens who adore adventures in La-La Land  and want to travel its highways and byways with a heroine they can root for. Reading, talk, q&a and signing.

Hello Sunshine Book CoverBecca Harrington is a reject. After being rebuffed by every college on her list, she needs a fresh start, so she packs up everything and moves to LA, giving herself one year to land an acting gig or kill herself trying. Unfortunately, after a few grueling months, L.A. is looking like the worst idea ever. In an act of desperation, Becca and her friend Marisol start posting short videos online—with the help of their adorable filmmaker neighbor, Raj—and the videos catch the attention of a TV producer. Could this be it? Her big break? Or will she have to move back home with nothing but some bad head shots and a monstrous credit-card bill? A  funny, romantic, aspirational, and ultimately triumphant novel about a girl who just wants to make it on her own.
